Diagnostic Ultrasound
To understand the state of your veins and the problems they may be experiencing, a diagnostic ultrasound will be performed on your first visit to Refine Vein Center. Our Registered Vascular Ultrasound Technician (RVT) will simply apply ultrasound gel to your leg before moving the ultrasound probe around to check your veins. The RVT will check both the superficial veins as well as the deeper veins, and your veins functioning will be checked to see if blood flows properly through the valves. images will be taken by sound waves, meaning no radiation is used for the ultrasound.
Vein Disease Diagnosis
Although common, vein issues are not always visible to the eye. To receive a vein disease diagnosis, you will need to undergo non-invasive screenings to understand the complexity of your vein health as well as which treatment plan is best for you. One of the screenings you will receive at Refine Vein Center is a duplex ultrasound scan that checks the state of your veins. This ultrasound will give Dr. Reynolds the information he needs to inform you on the best next steps and how to resolve the issues you are facing with your veins.

Conservative measures for 6-12 weeks such as graduated compression stocking, Unna boots, and regular leg elevation and exercise are typically required by insurance companies before covering other varicose vein treatments.
Medical grade compression socks are often prescribed to control the painful symptoms of varicose veins and swelling in the legs. They are also required to aid in the healing process following vein treatment procedures. A consultation with Dr. Reynolds is necessary to determine the strength of the stocking needed to control your symptoms. Here at Refine Vein Center, we have compression stockings of various strengths and sizes for our patients to use during their treatment, and we will ensure you have the right ones for optimal healing.

Enlarged and twisting veins at the skin’s surface, known as varicose veins, can be treated after the correct diagnosis. Most insurance companies cover medically necessary vein treatments. Your job is to know which treatment is right for you.
Thermal Ablation
The two types of thermal ablation involve a process of closing veins and rerouting blood flow and circulation through healthier veins and are known as endovenous laser ablation and radiofrequency ablation. These treatments are FDA-approved and take as much as a half hour to complete. The success rate is extremely high at more than 90%, and there is no substantial recovery time required.
Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA)
Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) involves the insertion of an FDA-approved laser fiber into an abnormal vein. Then, laser energy shuts the vein to reroute blood flow through a healthier one.
Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)
Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) involves the insertion of an FDA-approved catheter into an abnormal vein. Then, radiofrequency energy shuts the vein (as with EVLA) so that blood can be rerouted to healthier veins.
Varithena Treatment
Varithena® (polidocanol injectable foam) is an FDA-approved injection for abnormal veins. The procedure is performed with ultrasound guidance and typically involves only one treatment. If the amount or size of your veins is larger, additional treatments might be necessary.
Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy
Ultrasound-guided Sclerotherapy, or endovenous chemical ablation, consists of injecting sclerosant into abnormal veins and permanently closing them, thus rerouting blood flow to healthier veins. This ablation procedure is done with ultrasound guidance, making it safer and more efficient.

Surface Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a treatment that involves a “sclerosant” solution being injected directly into affected veins to address varicose vein disease and spider veins. At our Franklin, TN vein clinic, the treatment closes the targeted vein and redirects blood to healthier, fully functioning veins, which can improve both leg discomfort and appearance.
This treatment can be performed using liquid injections or foam injections. The liquid version is typically used for smaller surface veins, while the foam version, with its heightened effect, is used for larger veins and in more significant cases as well as during ultrasound guidance. Patients throughout Franklin, Brentwood, and greater Williamson County choose our clinic for precise, ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy tailored to their needs.
During your first visit with Dr. Reynolds, he will go over the treatment options available to you regarding your specific vein issue and inform you on whether or not you are eligible for Sclerotherapy. If you are pregnant, are allergic to sclerosant, experience blood clotting or bleeding episodes with immobility, you will not be eligible for this specific treatment plan. If you are eligible, however, you can expect to have approximately 3-4 visits for your treatment with four weeks between each visit.
